What can I learn here, and will there be a quiz after?

Because in spite of all the kinds of tutorials out there, a lot of maps I've come across in recent past, as well as my very own first few mapping attempts and even 'high profile' releases, seem to struggle every once in a while with a supposedly simple aspect of mapping.
